Recyclability

In most countries where plastic packaging is used and sold, recycling systems and infrastructure exist to handle all types of plastic. The great benefit of the NRK package is that the existing logistics can be employed to deliver the pack to the recycling facility. Smaller containers usually carry high deposits in many countries due to the lack of this infrastructure being available. In many regions the OWK will be a source of revenue when taken to a recycling depot.

• All major components of the OWK are capable of being recycled
• May be collected using existing recycling systems for PET containers, e.g. carbonated soft drinks

Commercial-scale trials have shown that the PET can be recycled into fibre, strapping, sheet and even mono-layer PET food and beverage containers. The polyethylene keg outer and polypropylene keg lid are readily recyclable and in most countries, systems are in place to recycle these materials for the plastic industry.

The OWK can remain within existing logistic control and need not be assessed as an environmentally unfriendly package.
